Squeak Carnwath: Painting Is No Ordinary Object

I just saw a beautiful show of Squeak Carnwath's paintings - one of my favorite artists - at the Oakland Museum of California. I highly recommend it. The large scale paintings are gorgeous and inspiring. The show is up until August 31, 2009.

The ultimate symbol of abundance inspired a new design. I spent hours smiling as I gathered together links of my work as a designer and put together images of past glories. It was an act of sufficiency and love. I visited BOLT fabric store on Alberta Street in Portland. Oh my god. So happy. Just by chance I passed by this amazing store. My mouth dropped open, my eyes glazed over and I told my husband that I would try to be home by the next day. As I wandered the aisles of this small and delicious boutique of fabric, a woman asked me if I needed help. "No" I said, who needs help in their "happy place"? My husband gently pulled me out for some fresh air, after some time spent drifitng...and I promised to return on Tuesday before we left town. It was the most inspiring store I have ever been in.
